The Christocentric Theology of Karl Barth

並列摘要

In the opening of his magnum opus Church Dogmatics, Barth argues in a considerably space the importance of the threefold form of the Word of God. His purpose is not simply to write a prolegomena for his own theology, but also to establish a criterion for any theological thinking. As far as Barth is concerned, the Word is not only the preface of Church Dogmatics, but also the praecognita theologiae for the whole Christian theology. That is to say, the Word is both the material and form of theology. The second volume of Dogmatics discusses the question of "how sinful human beings can know God" (a question concerning the essence of theology). At this point Barth maintains that Jesus Christ is the metaphysical foundation of all that is and certainly is the sole content of theology. No theological discussion can legitimately go beyond the sphere of Jesus Christ, for the content of theology is by nature transcendental and can be repeated forever. This is for Barth the real essence of theology and he terms it as "circulus veritatis Dei". It is the very aim of the present project to investigate the multiple meanings of the concept of "circulus veritatis Dei" in Barth's thought and its importance for Christian faith and theology.
