Confessions by Augustine of Hippo is a classic in the westen world. In the twentieth century, some important western scholars paid speical attentions to this work and reinterpreted it in the new context. Therefore profound discussions on some important themes were made. In view of the above-mentioned facts, with a close reading of the works by Martin Heidegger and Jacques Derrida, this paper intends to probe the significance of Augustine's "confessions" for the discussion on the relationship between the human being and the Wholly Other in postmodern theology.
