The Lord's Prayer is one of the most wide-spread prayers in Christianity. Michele Ruggieri, a Missionary S. J., is the first translator of the Lord's Prayer in classical Chinese, but his version was not disseminated. The popular version of the Lord's Prayer was the result of a collaboration between Europe missionaries and Chinese scholars. This popular version was used for reference when protestant missionaries tried to translate the Lord's Prayer in Chinese. Including Ruggieri's version, the translated versions of the Lord's Prayer were regarded also as rare exemplars of Chinese in European academia.
