Currently, a paradigm shift has transpired in the studies of Chinese Christianity with the research objective changing from "the Western Christian missionary movement in China" to "the real meaning of Chinese Christianity". And the research method has also changed from "the missionary and Euro-centric" to "the Sinological and China-centric" perspective. However, this paradigm shift redirects not only methodologies and researchers' backgrounds but also research topics as well. Given China's new situation, how should we keep pace with the time and face China's present Christian studies in a reasonable and effective way? The answer is presumably "to approach the core issues". In the interpretation, this paradigm shift both at the objective and method levels directs contemporary studies on the relationship between Christianity and Chinese culture. Given this, this article summarizes studies on Catholicism during Ming and Qing Dynasty in the first place, and then draws Liu Yunhua's new work Meaning-Formation by virtue of "Tian" (Yi tian li yi) into this venation, to discuss its significance to Sino-Christian Studies in a context of the history of thought.
