有關慈覺禪師宗賾之籍貫、生平及著作,歷來語焉不詳,且多爭論。國內佛典文獻僅見燈系書籍存載十餘則參禪語錄,以及蓮宗經典中散見之念佛偈頌等零篇,實與名列「蓮社繼祖五大法師」,或立七祖、八祖牌次;以及為雲門長蘆八祖之宗門釋家地位不能符合。何以會有如此反差,的確讓人百思不解?幸好海外保有十卷本的《禪苑清規》,使日本學者捷足先登,藉以發表不少的研究成果。隨著俄藏黑水城文物TK132《慈覺禪師勸化文》等文物的公布,駒澤大學圖書館《慈覺禪師語錄》的發現,大足寶頂大佛灣第15號龕報恩的石刻報導,以及雲南阿吒力教經典存錄了宗賾的〈勸孝文〉或《葦江集》等殘文,大陸學者的新論著也接著蜂湧而出,不乏可觀的成績。唯筆者研究釋應之《五杉練若新學備用》時,亦觸及宗賾《禪苑清規》的相關問題,並研讀了不少此方文章,深覺仍有再探的必要,故特別針對以上諸問題予以重新檢討,用以補闕拙作〈黑水城出土文獻慈覺禪師著作及其相關問題研究〉及〈從慈覺禪師的相關作品看禪宗燈書的編纂問題〉二文。
The origin, life, and works of Zen Master Zong Ze Ci Jue (1037-1106) are always obscure and disputed. It can merely ten more Zen quotations in "the Lamp Series" and a few verses of the chanting Buddha scattered in the Lian-Zong classics in domestic Buddhist documents. It does not match the status of the "Five Great Following Masters of the Lotus Society," or the Seventh and Eighth Patriarchs, as well as the status of the Eight Patriarchs of the Yun-Men Chang-Lu of Shi's Sect. Fortunately, the ten-volume version of the Chan Yuan Qing Gui is available overseas and makes Japanese scholars publish research first. With the publication of artifacts such as the Russian cultural relics from Khara-Khoto TK132, Cijue's Persuade Collection, the discovery of Cijue's Quotations Collection in the Komazawa University Library, the report of the stone carving No. 15 niche in Da-Fo-Wan, Da Zu Bao Ding, and the preservation of the remnants of the "Quan Xiao Wen" or Wei Jiang Collection by Zong Ze in the Yun-nan Azhali classics, and new research by China scholars all had impressive achievements. In short, Zong Ze's Chan Yuan Qing Gui still needs further research and re-examine. Therefore, the abovementioned issues supplement two previous articles, "Related Researches on Monk Cijue's Works in Khara-Khoto Documents" and "The Compilation of Chan Buddhist Books as Seen from Related Works by Chan Master Cijue."
