Identifying Imitations of Ancient Books -from the Library of Congress Collection

The collection of Chinese books in the Library of Congress USA (LC) is known to be the largest in the world outside of China. Since the Ming Dynasty, booksellers have been making counterfeits using a variety of techniques for increasing profits, and recently this practice has become more prevalent. This article discusses this historical phenomenon in seven categories, including sixteen types of methods of fraudulence, in order to serve as a reference for today's identification of ancient books.
