Differences in the Recognition of Emoticons between Disabled People and the General Public

With universal emoticons prevalent in social software, this study uses ten kinds of emotions to explore the differences in the recognition of emoticons and daily habits of using social platforms between disabled people and the general public through questionnaire surveys. The questionnaires of this study are divided into 3 parts. The first part is to survey the recognition degree of emoji. The second part is the investigation of the daily habits of using social platforms, and the third is the survey of the recognition degree of situational questions. Through the research, it is found that disabled people and the general public have similar recognition degree of most emoji; as to the daily habits of using social platform, the daily use of social software for disabled people is less frequent than that of the general public; with regard to the recognition degree of situational questions, there are a small part of private items, and the reaction of disabled people to them is completely different from that of the general public. The findings of this research can help to explore the similarities and differences in the emoticon recognition between disabled people and the general public, so as to satisfy the concept of the common design of image symbols.
