This paper attempt to investigate "the views on children" of Japanese's society in the beginning of 1990's by surveying eight excellent picture books which are created by Japanese native authors. The main stream of analysis is based on the scenario of the picture books. The illustrations inside the books also serve as a reference to understand the meaning behind the texts. By viewing the interaction between the leading role of children in the story and other people, one can easily find the "children image" which the authors try to build up. The results show that the young children had been provided several characteristics such as curiosity. self-center, independence and undulate. On the other hand, the young children also had been given boundless imagination, friendly, cooperation, sharing and bravery.
