從多元文化教育觀點思考圖畫書在國小語言教育之運用

The Use of Picture Books in Elementary School Language Education: A Perspective of Multicultural Education

摘要


本研究之目的是「以多元文化教育的觀點,討論現今國小語言教育現況,並探究台灣本土創作圖畫書在多元文化教育上的運用。」本研究以鍾鎮城(筆者之一)於2004至2006年間,對台灣國小語言教育所作調查之部份發現為基,此部分為:一、多元文化教育並非是當前大部分國小語言教師,在進行教學時的重要課題。二、學生本身的多元文化背景及語言能力,在教學過程裡,並沒有得到國小語言教師的重視。根據上述二項之發現,研究者們以美感式閱讀觀及資源觀的角度,探討本土創作之圖畫書在國小語言及多元文化教育上的運用,並提出下列五項建議:一當前的師資養成教育,應加強多元文化教育教學的能力。二、應喚醒國小語言教師本身之批判意識,及增強其對於多元文化教育的認知。三、應用富含多元文化意涵且由台灣本土作家創作之圖畫書於語言教學,將有助於啟發國小學生對台灣多元議題的思考。

The purpose of this study was to discuss the present elementary school language education from the perspective of multicultural education and examine the use of picture books written and illustrated by the Taiwanese writers and illustrators in multicultural education. This study was based on the partial findings from a survey about the Taiwanese elementary school language education conducted by Chen-Cheng Chun (first author) from 2004 to 2006. From this survey, he found: 1). For most of the present elementary school language teachers. multicultural education was not the major issue in their teaching. 2).ln their teaching, elementary school language teachers did not pay attention to students' multicultural backgrounds and multilingual abilities. Based on these two findings, researchers discussed the use of picture books written and illustrated by the Taiwanese writers and illustrators in elementary school language and multicultural education from the perspectives of aesthetic reading and picture-book-as-a-resource, and then provided the following five suggestions: 1). The current teacher training should enhance in-service and pre-service teachers'teaching abilities in multicultural education. 2). The elementary school language teachers'crtitical awareness and understanding of multicultural education should be awaken and enhanced. 3). In language teaching, it helps to enlighten elementary school students' thinking of multicultural issues related to Taiwan by applying picture books with multicultural perspectives written and illustrated by the Taiwanese writers and illustrators. 4) . Regarding the selection of picture books, we should not only consider what multicultural issues are shown in the books but also examine how they are presented in these works from a critical perspective. 5). From the perspective of pedagogy, in order to take students to discuss and experience the value of multicultural education by using the picture books written and illustrated by the Taiwanese writers and illustrators we can apply the model of small group discussion in literature circles.
