Numerical Simulation and Analysis of Fluid-Structure Interaction for a Two-Stage Centrifugal Refrigeration Compressor

This article numerically investigates the two-way fluid-structure interaction (FSI) of a two-stage centrifugal refrigeration compressor by using the commercial design software CFturbo and the computation fluid dynamics software ANSYS-Fluent and ANSYS-Structure. The two-stage centrifugal refrigeration compressor is composed of an inlet with guide vanes, two centrifugal impellers, a vaneless diffuser and the volute. The CFturbo software package is utilized to design the geometry of the main flow components of the compressor, including the size of the inlet and outlet of the impeller, the diameter of the impeller, the thickness of the blade, the number of blades, the diffuser and the inlet guide vane. The fluid simulation software ANSYS-Fluent is used to analyze the force being applied from flow through the inlet guide vanes of the impeller, to the vaneless diffuser and the volute, and the structural analysis software ANSYS-Structure is utilized for the spectrum analysis of the compressor's components. The numerical analysis obtained the deformation and stress of the refrigeration compressor and the results show that the compressor always operated within the safe range.
