六朝詩人的評價問題-以陸機為例的探討

A Study of Lu Chi with a View to the Appraisal of Six Dynasties Poets

並列摘要

The Six Dynasties saw a disaster-ridden period 'in Chinese history. In general, traditional Chinese intellectuals had a prejudice against literature of chaotic times. It is probably for this reason that the poets of the Six Dynasties were as a rule not held in high regard by critics of later generations. This phenomenon still prevails today. What is noteworthy is that the comments made by later critics are quite different in nature from those of the poets' own contemporaries. This article uses Lu Chi 陸機 as an example to compare the evaluations of him by his contemporaries and by critics of later generations, with a view to the examination of the problem of how we should appraise the poets of the Six Dynasties today. Lu Chi was highly considered in his own times, but his fame as a poet declined since Mid-T'ang. In the Sung Dynasty, one critic even thought that "Lu Chi was inferior to all other poets (in Six Dynasties)" (see Yen Yü: Ts'ang-lang Shih-hua 嚴羽:滄浪詩話). It was also from the Sung Dynasty onwards that the comments on Lu became unfavourable. This article will analyze the merits and demerits of Lu's poems and examine the causes of the mixed reception of his poems by critics of different periods. Literary views, artistic tastes, and analytical techniques are changing from age to age, and it is not surprising that different assessments are given to the same poet. But this articles wishes to point out that scholars should not be following with the prevailing trend. Although it is not necessarily the duty of a historian of literature to suggest brilliant expositions on ancient writers, he should, if he is conscientious, at least explain why there is such a gap between critics of our generation on the one hand and the writers' own contemporaries on the other.
