並列摘要

According to imperial documents such as the Archives of the Imperial Household Working at Yang Hsin Hall養心殿造辦處各作成做活計清檔 of the Yung Chêng-and Ch'ien Lung periods now in the China First Historical Archives 中國第一歷史檔案館 the writer, after years of investigation, discovered that there were seventy artisans sent to serve in the Ch'ing court by the Viceroy of Guangdong and Guang Hsi, the Provincial Governor of Guangdong and the Superintendent of Guangdong Maritime Customs. Of the seventy artisans, four were sent in the K'ang Hsi (1662-1772), ten in the Yung Cheng (1723-1735) and fiftysix in the Ch'ien Lung (1736-1795) reign periods. They fell into seven categories: glass-makers (two), painter (one), enamel painters (twenty), ivory carvers (eleven), clocksmith (one), lathe turners (two) and carpenters (thirty-three). This paper discusses details of the time they came to and left the court, their monthly salaries, the reasons for their returning to Guangdong and their service in the Ju Yi Kuan 如意館 (workshop of painting) the workshop of enamel and the workshop of carpentry. All these were recorded in the Archives of the Imperial Household Workshop at Yang Hisn Hall and the court memorials with the emperors' endorsement. This paper quotes materials which has never been published. It is, therefore, valuable as reference for the history of the development of Guangdong handicrafts and the relationship between imperial art and regional art.
