並列摘要

This paper summarizes extensive materials concerning important events in the life of the famous early Ch'ing historian Wan Su T'ung. The period from Ch'ung Chên 崇楨 11 to K'ang Hsi 康熙 5 (1638-1666) encompassed his childhood, youth and membership in the Literary Party; the period from K'ang Hsi 6 to K'ang Hsi 17 (1667 - 1678) included the period he lectured to students at the Ning Po Chêng Jên Academy 寧波證人書院 founded by Huang Chung Hsi 黃宗羲, as well as outside the academy; from K'ang Hsi 18 to K'ang Hsi 41 (1679 - 1702), he compiled historical records in Peking until his death. The paper gives a brief account of Wan's scholarship as it developed through the years, focusing in the scholarly legacy he inherited from his family; the reciprocating influence between him and his colleagues; the changes in his own scholarly research, the evolution of his thought and the circumatances of his historical compilations. Finally, the author corrects certain historiographical errors in current studies on Wan Su T'ung and presents historical materials which until now have been unavailable to most scholars.
