The Shih-p'in, long regarded as one of the most significant works in literary criticism in the Six Dynasties, has been extensively studied in recent years. There, are already a dozen or so different annotations to this brief book of poetic. Yet a number of questions concerning interpretation of the text as well as critical concepts are left unanswered. This annotation on comments on Hsieh Ling-yün attempts to solve some of the problems by close scrutiny of the text and careful analysis the implications of Chung Hung's critical remarks.
