Most jade or talc of the Eastern Chou era unearthed in Shantung are in the familiar style of the central region. There are, however, some jade or talc that are particular in style and have not yet been described. These articles are mainly made of talc, chalcedony and crystal. Their shapes are either flat in the back (huang 璜) or with horn-like protruding ornament (heng 珩). In respect of design, there are grains of mat and scales and parallel curves. Geometric patterns are prominent. These characteristics are different from those of the central region. As these articles under discussion are excavated from tombs of descendants of the Yi夷 tribe, there is no doubt that they are sculptures of the Yi tribe, in other words, they are Yi style jade or talc.
