宣王時期周王朝與淮夷關係考略

A Brief Account of the Relation between the Zhou and the Huai Yi during the Reign of Emperor Xuan

並列摘要

No extant pre-Qin texts except Ode 262 records the attack of the Zhou on the Huai Yi 淮夷 during the reign of Emperor Xuan 宣王. It is fortunate that the inscritpions on some Western Zhou bronze vessels furnish us with the evidence. On the basis of Ode 262 and these bronze inscriptions, this article examines the relation between the Zhou and the Huai Yi and comes to the following conclusions: (1) During the reign of Emperor Xuan, the Zhou launched attacks against the Huai Yi at least in two locations, in the middle reaches of River Huai 淮水 as well as Shandong 山東. (2) The Huai Yi was subjugated by the Zhou and had to send tribute and slaves. (3) The Huai Yi resisted against the Zhou. However, their resistance was crushed eventually. (4) There were trading activities between the Huai Yi and the Zhou. It is hoped that the above four points would be helpful to the historian in his attempt to understand the history of the late Zhou.
