基督教和儒教在十九世紀的接觸：基督教入華先驅馬禮遜研究

This essay discusses the work of Robert Morrison, the first Protestant Missionary to China, in the following areas: (1) his translation of the sacred Scriptures into Chinese language: (2) his compilation of Chinese grammar and Chinese and English dictionary: (3) his establishment of Anglo-Chinese College at Malacca and the promotion of the study of Chinese language and culture; (4) his emphasis on publishing articles and books on Christianity and Confucianism; and (5) his discussion on Confucianism with special reference to the comparison with Christianity The author asserts that Morrison has made significant contributions towards the encounter between Christianity and Confucianism in the first four areas mentioned above except the fifth. As he has misunderstood the thought of Confucianism, most of the concepts that he criticized were not the ＂thought＂ but the ideology of Confucianism.
