This investigation seeks to address the following questions: (1) The "Zhu zi" 諸子 (Various Thinkers) chapter in the Wenxin diaolong 文心雕龍 presents works that recorded the authors who had ru Dao jianzhi 入道見志 (transcended to the Dao and shown their ideal). Their prose is mainly unrhymed. However, besides the nature of the prose, what reason did Liu Xie 劉勰 compose the "Zhu zi" chapter and place it in the part named "Xu bi" 敘筆 (discussion on unrhymed writing)? (2) Is the principle of fuli yi jutong 敷理以舉統 (discussing the general characteristics of each writing), one of the four principles of lunwen xubi 論文敘筆 (discussion on rhymed writing and unrhymed writing) raised in the "Xu zhi" 序志 chapter, be applicable to reading the "Zhu zi" chapter? The answer to the first question is that zi is not a genre but a kind of literature. Liu Xie's aim in composing the "Zhu zi" chapter is to encourage people to produce zishu 子書 (works of thinkers). The answer to the second question is that the principle is still applicable. The nature of the Wenxin diaolong is complicated. Although many scholars classified it in the jibu 集部 (category of literary works), some scholars placed it in the zibu 子部 (category of works of thinkers). Liu Xie actually treated the Wenxin diaolong as a zishu.
