Comparing the Effects between Atorvastatin 40 mg and Ezetimibe/Simvastatin 10/20 mg on Lipoprotein Parameters and Inflammatory Markers among Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Hyperlipidemia

摘要

Background. Diabetic dyslipidemia has a complex nature and is composed of a cluster of atherogenic lipoproteins. Statin is the foundation in the management of diabetic dyslipidemia. Methods. The study is a 12-week, randomized, open labeled study in subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidemia. Our study aimed to evaluate lipid and inflammation modification effects between two lipid-lowering drugs, atorvastatin 40 mg and vytorin 10/20 mg (10mg ezetimibe combined with 20 mg simvastatin) in patients with type 2 diabetes and dyslipidemia. Results. After three months of treatment, both atorvastatin 40 mg and vytorin 10/20 mg treatments could significantly lower total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, and oxidized low-density lipoprotein as compared with the baseline. However, there were no significant differences in changes of lipid parameters and inflammatory markers between the two treatments. Conclusion. The present study shows comparable short-term effects of atorvastatin 40 mg and vytorin 10/20 mg treatments on selected lipid parameters and inflammatory markers in type 2 diabetes patients with hyperlipidemia.
