摘要

《佛光菜根譚》是星雲大師仿照《菜根譚》的體例，根據自己三十多年來弘法時所說的片言隻語而寫成的一部人生智慧書。與《菜根譚》相比，《佛光菜根譚》與《菜根譚》在君子人格的界定、立身處世的原則以及人生境界的追求上，都有著較為明顯的差異。究其根源，乃在於《佛光菜根譚》立足當下，精進勵志，普度眾生，是宗教家基於道德倫理的「善」的哲學；《菜根譚》則體現更多文人對人生的把玩與欣賞，是傳統文人基於文學藝術的「美」的哲學。

Humble Table, Wise Fare (Fo Guang Cai Gen Tan), with its style modeled after Cai Gen Tan, is a series of sayings written by Venerable Master Hsing Yun that provides insights on life, on the basis of isolated words and phrases in his Dharma propagation for over thirty years. Compared with Cai Gen Tan, apparent differences can be found in Humble Table, Wise Fare on the definition of the characteristics of a gentleman, the principles of conducting oneself in society, and the pursuit of ideal state of life. This is due to the fact that Humble Table, Wise Fare is rooted in the present and promotes persistence, motivation, and the liberation of sentient beings. It is the religious philosophy of virtue and ethics, while Cai Gen Tan presents a more literatis' appreciation of life and ＂beauty＂.
