Humble Table, Wise Fare (Fo Guang Cai Gen Tan), with its style modeled after Cai Gen Tan, is a series of sayings written by Venerable Master Hsing Yun that provides insights on life, on the basis of isolated words and phrases in his Dharma propagation for over thirty years. Compared with Cai Gen Tan, apparent differences can be found in Humble Table, Wise Fare on the definition of the characteristics of a gentleman, the principles of conducting oneself in society, and the pursuit of ideal state of life. This is due to the fact that Humble Table, Wise Fare is rooted in the present and promotes persistence, motivation, and the liberation of sentient beings. It is the religious philosophy of virtue and ethics, while Cai Gen Tan presents a more literatis' appreciation of life and "beauty".
