Humanistic Buddhism is the mainstream in the contemporary development of Chinese Buddhism. Fo Guang Shan, founded by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, is the typical representative of how Humanistic Buddhism is practiced in the contemporary society. Venerable Master Hsing Yun has brought the beliefs of Humanistic Buddhism into real practice and has made unprecedented contributions by establishing numerous branch temples around the world, by introducing innovative ideas to the development of Buddhism, and by bringing monastics and devotees closer. This paper is a case study of Hong Kong Fo Guang Vihara, one of the branch temples in Hong Kong. It is a discussion on the harmonization of Venerable Master Hsing Yun's Humanistic Buddhism, the social conditions of Hong Kong, the physical environment, organization, staff structures, educational activities, courses, and modes of assessment at Hong Kong Fo Guang Vihara. Furthermore, it discusses the philosophy of Humanistic Buddhist education as advocated by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, particularly regarding the educational beliefs and practices in volunteer teams, further revealing the methods of teaching and related characteristics of Venerable Master Hsing Yun's advocacy for Humanistic Buddhist education.
