Notes on Nesting Site and Parental Care of Eumeces chinensis formosensis Van Denburgh from Taiwan
中國石龍子(Eumeces chinensis formosensis)之築巢及護幼行為之觀察記錄
摘要
A Eumeces chinensis formosensis nesting site with 19 eggs, 17.70 ± 0.85mm in length, 13.68±0.64mm in width, and 1.57 ± 0.17g in weight (X ± SD, n-18), was found 30 cm deep in sand along a bamboo windbreak beside a stream in Taoyuan Hsien, Taiwan on June 26, 1992. Neonates hatched in the terranium were 83.69 ± 1.78mm, 33.34±0.97mm, and 0.71 ± 0.05g in total length, snout-vent length, and weight (n-10), respectively. There were three types of parental care behaviors observed, including coiling around brood, constructing and maintaining nest, and removal of nonviable eggs from nest.

在1992年6月26日，筆者於台灣桃園縣一溪邊竹林下的沙堆30公分深處，發現一中國石龍子(Eumeces chinensis formosensis)的巢，其內有19顆卵，平均長17.70 ± 0.85mm，寬13.68 ± 0.64mm，重1.57 ± 0.17g (X ± SD, n-18)。帶回實驗室後共孵出11隻，平均全長為83.69 ± 1.78 mm，吻肛長33.34 ± 0.97mm，重0.71 ± 0.05g (n-10)。在室內共觀察到三種護幼行為，包括coiling around brood, constructing and maintaining nest以及removal of nonviable eggs from nest。
