摘要

Studies (1996-99) on the community structure of zooplankton in Coringa estuarine mangrove environment on the east coast of India revealed altogether 12 Biologically Important Species (HIS) of zooplankton represented by 6 major groups. Description of zooplankton structure included species composition, density and spatial distribution patterns of BIS at 15 GPS fixed locations. Acartia erythraea, bivalve veligers, Eucalanus elongatus, Paracalanus parvus, zoea of Scylla serrata, gastropod veligers and Acartia clausi were the important BIS species. The distribution and density of BIS revealed that the majority of them are represented by typical brackish water forms. The ambient salinity and degree of stability achieved through neritic influence are prime influencing factors in limiting the BIS distribution in the estuarine mangrove environment of Coringa.
