Medication Knowledge, Safe Use of Medicines and Health Literacy in a Reginal Hospital

Purpose: The medication safety can be accomplished not only in the good connection and cooperation of patients and medical staffs, but also in the enforcement of drug safety knowledge and proper behavior of administrating drugs for patients. Method: We also collect the medication Instruction during March to December in 2017 which are often requested for medication instruction including reconstitution of powdered antibiotic drugs, other routes for administrating drugs, nasal spray and inhalers, drug storage, etc. and patients' feedbacks to the pharmacist's instruction are also recorded to analyze. Results: 5,151 instruction records were enrolled and 52.5% were man. The majority of them with parents were below five years old (57.5%). Health literacy was positively associated with medication knowledge by the parents' intervention. The patients' feedbacks from instructions are scored as totally understood (98.9%) and partially understood (1.1%). Discussion: Medical knowledge and safe use of medicines and health literacy were significantly improved after pharmacist involvement.
