A developed health literacy program of prevention pesticides among corn farmers in the Northern of Thailand

This action research aimed to; develop health literacy program and ; comparative health literacy scores before and after intervention at 4 and 8 weeks in case group and control group and; health literacy scores between case and control group at 4 and 8 weeks. This area study was a highest corn plant at MaeNareua Sub-district in Phayao province, in the Northern of Thailand. The 262 Participants of this research composed of three groups: 5 leaders were ; 252 corn farmers who using pesticide and ; 5 researchers were community and academic researchers. This research divided into 5 steps ; social assessment were in-depth interview and focus group; epidemiology assessment was constructed questionnaires for health literacy survey; educational assessment was analyzed survey and divided groups into low and high level; Intervention alignment was constructed health literacy program and ; evaluation phase were program tests. Qualitative data were verified by triangulation investigation and analyzed by domain analysis. Quantitative data were verified by Alpha's Cronbach and analyzed by descriptive statistics, and Friedman test. The results of this research were as follows 1) health literacy program consisted of; the issue were pesticide, pesticide reduction, contaminated vegetables, vegetables reduction and review target of label and symbols of pesticide; two groups were case group which was low health literacy level, carry on 7 activities and control group was high health literacy level, carry on 4 activities; various learning methods were participation lecture, discussion, demonstration, return demonstration and self-learning; and duration of interventions were 8 weeks. 2) the program effected to the significantly higher scores than before the program done at eight week (p-value < 0.001) in the case group while as the program effected to the significantly lower scores of health literacy of prevention pesticides than at eight week (p-value < 0.001). in the control group 3) the comparative health literacy scores between case and control group showed the control group was higher score than case group at before the program done (p-value < 0.001) , on the other hand case group was higher score than control group at the eighth week (p-value < 0.001). The results of this research should be promote program for corn farmers in order to develop health literacy of prevention pesticide in similar area.
