摘要

Black porgy Mylio macrocephalus (Basilewsky) is one of the important maricultural fishes in Hong Kong. There is a shortage of fingerlings for the local fish farmers due to the increase of the market demand and the maricultural industries, pollution and over-fishing in recent years. The seed-breeding of marine organisms for the local fishermen is one of the important research projects of the Marine Science Laboratory, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Carp pituitary glands, puberogen (HCG) and peamex (PMS) were used for induced ovulation of the four spawners (2 for dissection and 2 for stripping eggs and sperms)- ♂ 24.4-25.3 cm, 549-568 g; ♀ 26.8-27.2 cm, 587-591 g. Intramuscular injection was engaged at every six-hours interval for female spawners. After the seventh injection, about 0.35 million eggs were obtained from three strips in the early morning (0415H) of 9th March, 1978. "Dry method" was applied for the artificial fertilization. The rate of fertilization was around 70%. In a seawater temperature of 19℃, salinity 30-31% and dissolved oxygen 4.9-5.0 ppm, the eggs hatched after about 50 hours. The induced ovulation and stripping of spawners, fertilization and development of eggs, hatching and growth of larvae are described in this paper.
