Abdominal pain is one of the most common complaints in older adults. Challenges to the evaluation and management of abdominal pain in the elderly population are multifactorial but start with the lack of typical clinical symptoms and varying presentations of intra-abdominal problems. The article began with a review of the common causes of acute abdomen in the elderly, such as peptic ulcer, biliary and pancreatic disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm, ileus, diverticular disease, and appendicitis. Difficulties of diagnosis, examination and treatment for the above diseases were then discussed.
