Religion Within The Rational Realm

並列摘要

In 1848, Georges Bataille wrote Theory of Religion, re-presenting and continuing his thoughts since the late 1920s on the origin of primitive religiousness and the cause of "holy experience". The concept of "transgression" could be the result of Bataille's early renunciation of Christianity. He has opened a gate to all who would like to shatter the shackles of metaphysics, a gate that leads to "transgression". As Foucault has said, "Perhaps one day the concept of transgression will be seen as part of the soil of our civilization, a concept of decisive significance, just as the importance of contradiction is to the dialectic experience." To Bataille, "What religion refers to as God is something unrecognized, or, an absence of the matter." Of course, he knows the absence of God "doesn't mean that a world without God is as complete as a naive atheist would imagine."On the contrary, "the absence of God leaves immense space." This very space means possible moments to explore and approach the impossible holy experiences.
