"A Preface to Transgression" was first published in Critique (No. 195-6), in response to Georges Bataille's Transgression. It reveals an important theme of modern French thoughts, which can be found in Maurice Blanchot, Bataille and Foucault, i. e. a counterstrike against the suppression or negation by Enlightenment or reason. The so-called "non-rational" matters are given a forum for discussion, where anything" transgressive" would pique interest. Naturally, "holiness" is one topic that draws attentaion.
