Christian Revelation, Buddhist Enlightenment and Confucian Destiny

並列摘要

Compared with Buddhist enlightenment and Confucian destiny, the Christian revelation shows its distinguishing features. The Christian revelation is God's initiative action. Man knows God and his will because God has freely revealed himself. God has first revealed himself to the patriarchs, then accomplished it in the life, teaching, death, and Resurrection of Jesus. God's revelation includes his operations and instructions. The Buddhism conceives of revelation not as active intervention of the Supreme Being into the worldly realm but as an enlightenment gained through discipline and meditation. The Confucianism believes the destiny or providence of the Heaven, and emphasizes the necessity of following a natural harmony in the universe. However, the Confucians maintain that the Heaven never speaks, therefore people can find "revelation" only in the transparency of the immanent divine principle or way (Tao).
