Scholars have been arguing on the subject of apocalyptic Jesus or non-apocalyptic Jesus for more than a century, yet no basic agreement was made up to now. In this paper, we aim to discuss the topic out of external and internal evidence. By analyzing the external evidence, we found out that apocalyptic thought prevailed among contemporary Jews, John the Baptist, of whom Jesus was once a disciple, and the disciples of Jesus. It is logical to assume that Jesus had apocalyptic thought according to the master-apprentice relationship. As to the internal evidence, apocalyptic thought are found in the Gospel of Mark, Q materials, the texts only in Luke's Gospel, the ones only in Matthew's Gospel and extra canon materials, and we can draw a conclusion that Jesus is the fountainhead of this stream. An apocalyptic Jesus would naturally impact on Jesus Movement and the consequential church development.
