The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) published her new hymnal Seng-Si in 2009, containing 650 hymns from 73 countries. Nearly 25% of these hymns come from all but one (the Rukai tribe) ethnic group of Taiwan. This paper reviews the historical process of compiling this new hymnal that reflects the PCT's 1985 Confession of Faith. The core of the article describes the provenance of selected hymns and analyzes their poetic forms, socio-political, cultural and musicological aspects for indication of contextuality.
