The Potential Contribution of Taiwanese Tribal Music to the Development of Choral Music of the Church

並列摘要

Following two former articles, this one traces further traditional Tribal music of Taiwan which have been adapted as hymns or choral anthems, for the purpose of showing the potential of tribal contributions to the development of choral music of the Church. Examples from the Ami, Paiwan, Rukai, Bunun and Truku tribes are cited with brief analysis and comments. The conclusion points to the fact that the Ami multipart practices have been utilized more than any other tribes, and that Hayu Yudaw has ventured into the syncretization of various tribal multipart singing techniques into one piece as another option for further development. The works cited also affirmed this writer's motto on compositional techniques that "modernization is not the equivalent of Westernization."
