Speech sound disorder is what we used to call articulation disorders, phonological disorders, and expressive phonological impairment. Clinically, the assessment and intervention of speech sound disorder usually focused on improving the articulation or phonological process. Recent studies have found that some pre-school children with speech sound disorder has problems in phonological awareness, moreover, training effectiveness of speech sound will be better with phonological awareness training. This article aims to review and evaluate studies focused on the issues of phonological awareness in children with speech sound disorders. It is expected to provide some considerations for future studies and clinical work for children with speech sound disorders.
