堤林數衛(西元1873-1938),是日本人經由臺灣前往南洋經商的代表性人物。其身後留下的手稿、從商紀錄、相片等,為研究日治時期日人前進南洋的第一手資料。西元(以下同)2010年中央研究院臺灣史研究所執行「臺灣文史資源海外徵集與國際合作計畫」,遠赴日本石川縣七尾市,將珍貴文獻徵集回臺灣,進行整編、數位典藏,並完成全數文書的後設資料(metadata)著錄,收錄於該所檔案館的臺灣史檔案資源系統,提供線上目錄及文書影像查詢。文書徵集過程的背後存有許多值得紀錄下來的故事,這當中包含了歷史學者對於史料追尋的熱忱、文書提供者對於先人資料的珍視,還有透過史料徵集而建立起來的人與人之間的情誼。因此,本文除了簡介堤林數衛的生平、文書內容、分類架構、研究面相外,主要是紀錄檔案自海外發現與徵集回臺灣典藏的過程,及其背後的文書故事。
Kazue Tsutsumibayashi (1873-1938) was an important figure who set up a business in Southeast Asia from Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period. Materials left by Kazue Tsutsumibayashi, contain his manuscripts, photographs, and correspondence on business matters, etc. These records are precious for studying Japanese foreign policy toward Southeast Asia during the Japanese Colonial Period. Aims to acquire Taiwan historical resources scattered overseas through the collaboration with foreign country, the Institute of Taiwan History, Academia Sinica, as the "International Collaboration of Taiwan Cultural and Historical Resources Acquisition Project" executor, visited Nanao, Japan in 2010 to acquire papers of Kazue Tsutsumibayashi. All the digitization works have been completed, such as creating digital image files, editing metadata, gaining of the rights to use, etc. The collection of "Kazue Tsutsumibayashi's papers" will be accessed through the "Taiwan Archival Information System". This article first introduces the background and contents of the collection of Kazue Tsutsumibayashi. Secondly, this article aims to describe the stories about how the collection founded. Finally, this article highlights the historical significance of the collection and possible research directions to enhance the academic value and usability of the digital database.
