黃金傳奇－從檔案細數臺灣金屬礦業股份有限公司發展足跡

19世紀末期發現了金瓜石礦山，開啟了臺灣金屬礦業股份有限公司採金煉銅的黃金歲月，隨著日本人大規模開採金、銅礦，讓金瓜石礦山的產量在西元1940年代達到全盛時期，成為當時的東亞大礦之一。二次世界大戰後，國民政府接收原日本人經營的礦區，並改組為臺灣金銅礦務局，然復產後的產量已大不如前。西元1955年該局又改組為臺灣金屬礦業股份有限公司（簡稱臺金公司），以吸收外國及民間資金，不再由政府獨資經營，此時臺金公司也開始兼營煤礦、銅加工等業務，創造利潤得以盈餘，惟西元1980年興建禮樂煉銅廠，使貸款負荷沈重，加以國際經濟衰退，導致虧損日益嚴重，最終於西元1991年與臺灣糖業股份有限公司（簡稱臺糖公司）合併，金瓜石近百年的黃金歲月亦隨著臺金公司熄燈劃下了句點。歷經數十年的變遷，現典藏於國家發展委員會檔案管理局（以下簡稱本局）的臺金公司檔案僅剩360公尺，從這些國家檔案中，可以窺見臺金公司經營的軌跡，拼湊出該公司曾經活躍的發展狀況，目前這些檔案已完成點收、除蟲菌、編排、描述等保存基礎作業，藉由本文內容，讓我們一起走入時光長廊，回顧臺金公司曾有的風華過往。

The Jinguashi ore deposits were discovered in late 19th century. In the 1940s, due to the large scale mining of gold and copper mines by the Japanese, Jinguashi's mineral output reached a new high and became one of the largest mines in East Asia. As the World War II was over, the mine was taken over by Taiwan Gold and Copper Mining Administration and the mineral output lessened considerably. In 1955, Taiwan Gold and Copper Mining Administration was reorganized as Taiwan Metal Mining Corporation (TMMiC) in order to obtain private funds. Meanwhile, TMMiC also started running coal and copper business to increase income. However, after completing Li-Yueh Copper Smelter Complex in 1980, TMMiC was under a huge amount of debt. Moreover, because of the global economic recession, the deficit was increasing rather quickly. In 1991, TMMiC finally ended its reign of decades in Jinguashi and merged into Taiwan Sugar Corporation. Later, the remaining 360 meters of archives of TMMiC were transferred to National Archives Administration (NAA), National Development Council. In these archives, one can uncover TMMiC's history and relive its glory days. By now, NAA has completed basic preservation works such as archive check, fumigation, archival arrangement and description. This article is a brief introduction of TMMiC and its archives.
