A Comparison of Chinese and English Delexical Structures and Its Implications for Word Class Labeling of Object Words in Chinese Delexical Structures

摘要

This paper attempts to take the typical Chinese and English delexical verbs - "Ji Yu" and "take" as an example, with the help of the Corpus of Contemporary American English and the Modern Chinese Corpus of the National Language Commission of China to retrieve their delexical structures, and then compare the results of manual retrieval. It is found that the meaning of the Chinese and English delexical structure is roughly equivalent to the verb meaning of the object in this structure, and the object in the Chinese and English meaning structure is nominalized. However, there is no consensus in Chinese academic circle on whether the nominalization or cross‐category of the object words in Chines delexical structures in Chinese has occurred. After consulting word class labeling of the object words with high frequency of collocation with "Ji Yu" in the authoritative dictionaries, the author finds two major problems. Finally, guided by Wang Renqiang's Two-level Word Class Categorization Theory, author answers the above two questions, and reveals the implications of the comparison of Chinese and English delexical structures on the word class labeling of the object words in Chinese delexical structures.
