In recent years, China has achieved the rapid enhancement of its economic power and become a major player in the global economy. However, to counter the dangers posed by the overheating of its economy, the authorities in Beijing have recently implemented measures to put a brake on runaway economic expansion. The main purpose of this paper is to examine China's economic development situation alongside the evolution of its economic role on the world stage, and to analyze the impact of its cooling measures on its own economy as well as the regional and global economies and the cross-strait economic and trade relationship. It is hoped that the paper's conclusions will furnish a helpful source of reference for the formulation of cross-strait strategy by both the government and private enterprises in Taiwan.
