The relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait originated from the divided state of the nation caused by the Chinese Civil War in 1949. Since then, China has always emphasized the "reunification to motherland" and "One China" that includes Taiwan, while Taiwan emphasizes the "subjectivity of Taiwan" and "the future of Taiwan should be decided by the 23 million Taiwanese." The root cause of such difference sits on the dispute over "sovereignty." The traditional theory of sovereignty adopts the concept of absolute sovereignty. However, with the changing trend of globalization, "sovereignty" has gradually evolved into something that can be pooled or alienated, in order to help the international community solve issues concerning transnational and global levels. Therefore, the dispute over sovereignty between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait should be temporarily put on hold. We should proceed to communicate and interact through the "Chinese culture" aspect that both sides currently have in common, and then establish cross-strait mutual trust and achieve political reconciliation for both sides to coexist and enjoy prosperity together.
