After World War II, Overseas Chinese in different countries have in many ways preserved and reinvented Chinese culture, and at the same time created new cultural models. Most researchers have been focusing on how Chinese communities preserved their culture as they went through adjustment, acculturation and assimilation. However, we should pay more attention to the degree of their cultural adaptation- how Chinese communities in different countries have reshaped their culture by adding in local elements. To discuss the cultural preservation of Chinese communities, we must take account of the influence of policies implemented in their respective countries, the differences between various Chinese communities, socio-political issues of different countries and dominant ideologies in the world.
