Mendicant Buddhism is one of the major sects in Vietnamese Buddhism, which consists of the essence of both North Buddhism and Southern Buddhism. Since the founding of Mendicant Buddhism, Master Minh Dang Quang (1923-1954) followed Buddha's teaching to use the begging bowl as a way of Sangha daily life to promote Buddhism. This is unique in Mendicant Buddhism. Through the process of the begging bowl practice, mendicants experienced the ordinary man's suffering and learned the local social illness, which is useful for them to choose appropriate dharma to serve the public. Begging bowl is a process for mendicants to establish Sangha image and the way of their spiritual improvement to attain enlightenment (Bodhi).
