An Empirical Study on the Impact of Digital Economy Development on Rural Revitalization

Digital economy is very important for rural revitalization and development. From an empirical point of view, based on the panel data of 30 provinces (except Tibet, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) in China from 2013 to 2019, this paper uses entropy method, undesired SBM model, moderated mediating effect model and threshold effect model to study the impact of digital economy on rural revitalization. The empirical analysis shows that : (1) the digital economy has a significant positive impact on the level of rural revitalization and development, and the benchmark regression results are still valid through the robustness test ; (2) The mediating effect test shows that Engel coefficient and agricultural total factor productivity have a masking effect in the process of digital economy affecting rural revitalization, which reduces the absolute value of the influence coefficient of explanatory variables on rural revitalization. (3) The moderated mediation effect test shows that lower government efficiency significantly negatively moderates the relationship between digital economy and rural revitalization ; at the same time, lower government efficiency significantly negatively regulates the relationship between rural total factor productivity and rural revitalization ; (4) Threshold effect analysis shows that when the threshold value of government efficiency reaches 0.2767, the digital economy can significantly promote rural revitalization and development ; (5) Heterogeneity analysis shows that in western China, the positive impact of digital economy on rural revitalization is stronger than that in eastern and central China ; digital economy can significantly promote the development of rural revitalization in areas with advanced information development level. Finally, based on the above research conclusions, this paper puts forward relevant suggestions from the perspectives of digital economy and government efficiency, so as to promote the development of rural revitalization.
