摘要

对于“构建马来西亚国家共同体与华文教育的可持续发展”这一命题的探索，必须立足于凌驾现实的层面，以涵括现实又超越现实的思考维度，形塑华文教育可持续发展的价值关切。与过往华文教育坚持的传承中华文化为己任的传统视角不尽相同，在构建马来西亚国家共同体的视域下，除了民族本身的主体意识，尚需力求构建属于马来西亚国民的国家认同意识和多元文化观，以谋得国家的和谐发展。再者，构建马来西亚国家共同体的思维并非意味华文教育在马来西亚是迎合单一政策的发展，反之是为推进和提升因应大环境产生的不同文化凝结而成的共识和尊重多元或个别差异的文明价值观。本文的基本思路是，通过对“为何要构建马来西亚国家共同体”问题的提出并梳理其中的背景因素，进而论述马来西亚国家共同体的内涵及其在华文教育可持续发展的价值取向，以及归纳构建马来西亚国家共同体在华文教育可持续发展的挑战和实践方向，为马来西亚华文教育的永续发展提供可参酌的思想导向。

This study that on "building the Malaysian Community of Common Destiny and the sustainability of Chinese education" is an attempt to transcend the current discourse on Chinese education that is inseparable from the emphasis on its past or on its tussle with political pressures. It is recognised that education has a role to play in building a sense of national identity and multiculturalism of the Malaysian nation and in fostering peace and harmony. Hence the idea of building a Malaysian Community of Common Destiny is the overall goal of education in general, and in which Chinese education may play its rightful role to promote and enhance cultural consensus and respect for diversity and differences. The purpose of this study is not on the traditional role of Chinese education as a means to keep alive the heritage of the Chinese language and culture but will instead examine Chinese education from the perspective of its sustainability and its positive role in contributing to building a community of common destiny in keeping with the idea of a "united Malaysian nation" as spelt out in Vision 2020. The reasons for building the Malaysian Community of Common Destiny are examined, followed by a discussion of the significance of the Malaysian national community and the relevance of sustainable Chinese education, its role in the construction of this community, the challenges facing the practical approach, and how a healthy and sustainable Chinese education may provide valuable guidelines to help attain this ultimate goal.
