Wing-tsit Chan is the most renowned Chinese American sinologist of Chinese philosophy, the primary driver and leader of Chinese philosophy studies in contemporary America and the veteran initiator of cultural communication between east and west. Chan's English translation of Neo-Confucianism has provided the most important first-hand material for American Neo-Confucian Studies. In terms of the characteristic of his scholarship, Chan was the first person who ushered Chinese philosophy into the world as an independent discipline.
