Navigating the Changing Landscape of the Asian Traditional Herbal Medicine Industry Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic

摘要

This study is a qualitative study discussing the changing landscape of the traditional herbal medicine industry in Asia amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the results show， The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the Chinese herbal medicine industry. The demand for Chinese herbal medicines has risen sharply due to people's increased interest in improving immunity and maintaining health. Sales of Chinese herbal medicines, including commonly used medicinal materials and those with special effects on the epidemic, have increased significantly during the epidemic. However, production and circulation have been affected due to restrictions on epidemic prevention and control measures, leading to a decline in supply and rising prices of some products. Nevertheless, the pandemic has also increased the value of Chinese herbal medicines, with traditional Chinese medicine treatment methods widely applied and people gradually accepting Chinese medicine and herbal medicine treatment methods. Some Chinese herbal medicine products' efficacy has been scientifically verified, enhancing people's confidence and recognition of Chinese herbal medicine. Overall, the COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges and opportunities for growth in the Chinese herbal medicine industry, which remains an essential contributor to traditional medicine, offering potential health benefits during the pandemic and beyond.
