一個可支援個人化學習與教材推薦之英語跟讀學習系統之設計

Design an English Shadowing Learning System for Supporting Personal Learning and Material Recommendation

摘要


因為台灣缺乏英語環境及傳統教學限制,學生普遍缺乏英語口說能力,如何使用資訊科技輔助英語學習是目前重要的議題。跟讀是一種外語學習方法,要求學習者必須立即重複說出所聽到的聲音,並且在外語學習上逐漸興起,應用於聽力及口說訓練。利用跟讀可以給予學生說話的機會,彌補日常英語使用不足的問題。然而大部分的課程教材多為教課書,即使利用網路媒體也較難找到適合的教材,並且教師也無法針對每位學生進行評估改善。我們提出了個人化英語跟讀學習系統,設計兩階段的推薦機制,在第一階段以學習者的主題喜好篩選,並在第二階段以學習者的跟讀能力篩選,以此推薦適合學習者的教材,達到個人化學習之目的。設計跟讀學習流程,利用Google的語音轉文字服務,將學習者所跟讀的音檔進行分析,根據分析結果動態更新學習者的能力。提供聽力理解測驗及錯誤報告,方便學習者針對弱點進行改善。教師則可以透過學習歷程記錄,對表現不佳的學生進行個別指導,幫助改善學習者的聽力理解及口說能力。

Most EFL students in Taiwan feel hard to improve their English speaking fluency because of English speaking environment in daily life is insufficient. Shadowing has been a training method for the improvement of L2 speaking and listening, and its effectiveness has been proved as well. Unlike traditional repetition, shadowing asks learners repeat what they heard immediately instead. Such training can help EFL learners imitate native of English accent and fluency. Although current studies of computer-assisted language learning blended shadowing and IT techniques, EFL learners still suffer from searching appropriate materials despite they can find divers materials in YouTube or TED. In addition, learners in shadowing might be depressed by the materials that are too difficult to them. Therefore, our present research is aimed to propose an English shadowing learning system with materials recommendation. The purpose of this paper is to describe the details of development of the proposed system. By using the proposed, learners are recommended materials according to preference, speaking ability and materials' difficulties. After each round of shadowing, a learner's ability can be updated and receive next corresponding recommendation. Consequently, learners' English speaking or listening should be enhanced.
