East Asia Buddhist Conference in 1925 was a big event in the Buddhist communication between China and Japan. Based on relevant sources, this paper investigate this conference in the following aspects: the background, preparation, procedure, topics covered, especially the report on the social engagement of Chinese Buddhism, and Taixu and other 's comparison of Chinese and Japanese Buddhism. It shows that the organization of this conference was the coincidence of Taixu's World Buddhist Fellowship Movement and the Chinese-oriented Japanese Policies. The conference was an unprecedented dialogue between Chinese and Japanese Buddhists, also a new attempt of Chinese Buddhist communication with others. Wang Yiting's report reflect s the development of social engagement of Chinese Buddhism in their century, and Taixu's comparison of Chinese and Japanese Buddhism indicates an appeal for sefl-reformation and proceeding to the wild world.
