學生評鑑教師教學:兩所大學的師生觀點

Student Evaluations of Teaching: Perspectives of Teachers and Students in Two Universities

摘要


「學生評鑑教師教學」是當今大學普遍採用的評鑑教師教學效能的主要方法之一。評鑑結果的應用範圍也從最初的改進教學到涉及教授晉升的人事決定。如今,大學無不卯足全力,投人大量時間、人力與資金推動此實務,學術界也持續對相關議題進行探討,但歧見仍然存在。本研究調查兩所大學師培學院的師生(教師各約25人,學生約120人)對「學生評鑑教師教學」現況的覺察及看法,發現兩校師生在實務的覺察及觀點上具有部分共識,但仍存在歧見。本研究建議負責「學生評鑑教師教學」政策制定者,應重新檢視評鑑的目的、實施方式及結果的應用。尤其,對於師生之間的歧見應充分了解,相互溝通,讓「學生評鑑教師教學」活動公開、透明、具體、客觀,解除師生的疑慮,強調形成性的改進功能而非總結性的人事決定,以建構適合大學師生的評鑑方式。

"Student evaluations of teaching" is widely adopted by universities serving as a major method for evaluating teachers' teaching effectiveness. The application of the evaluation results have been shifted from the improvement on teaching to the personnel decisions. Since then, universities have made significant effort through investing a lot of time, manpower, and resources to promote this practice. In addition, the issues about "student evaluations of teaching" have been continuing explored but yet remained controversial. This study further investigated the perceptions and perspectives of teachers and students on "student evaluations of teaching" in two universities. About 25 teachers and 120 students in each university completed the survey. The findings show that there was some consensus between teachers and students, but still some gaps appeared. The results of this study suggest that policy makers of student evaluations of teaching should re-examine the rationale of its practice, including the purpose of the evaluation, the way it is implemented, and the application of its results. In particular, the gap between teachers and students should be fully understood and resolved in order to dispel the doubtsso as to construct a formative-orientated, open, transparent, specific and objective policy that is suitable for the university.
