王陽明思想的發展與完成

THE DEVELOPMENT OF WANG YANG-MING'S THOUGHT

並列摘要

This article, divided into three sections, treats the development and completion of Wang's thought in an annalistic order. The first section, "The Aspirations in his Youth", through an account of his longing for sagehood, for heroic ideals, and for longevity and immortality, shows that his unrestrained life was still unstable. The second section, "The Three Earlier Changes of his Philosophy", deals with the heterogeneous changes before the maturity of his thought. The three changes are his indulgence in literature, his absorption in Chu Hsi's theory of investigation, and his infatuation with Buddhism and Taoism. The three formed the processs of his self-discovery. The third section, "The Three Later Changes of his Philosophy", concerns the homogeneous development and completion of his thought after seeing light at Lung-ch'ang. The three changes are his advocation of sitting in tranquility in order to purify the mind and concentrate on the Origin; his emphasis on developing liang-chih or conscience without the aid of meditation and purification of the mind; and the final maturity of his thought, when good and evil were in his awareness but would no longer hamper his will. These represent the progress of his self-completion.
