Some scholars mantain hat the Hetu-vidya (因明) is in logical form and term it as "Indian logic". It is the author's conception however that Hetu-vidya is a form of reduction and that logic, in a strict sense, is itself deductive. A Hetu-vidya argument is composed of two parts: 1) to trace its sufficient condition from the conclusion-the inductive part; 2) to assert the conclusion as a logical consequence-the deductive part. These two parts stand complementary to each other and this form of argument will not stand if any one of them is left out. The author also disagrees with the Japanese scholars who interpret the concept that "at least no less than one member of the class has the sufficient condition" (同品定有性) according to the syllogism point of view.
